The Struggles of Being a Gym Girl

There are many positives to being a gym girl such as a banging body, improved confidence and energy levels, better mental health, and so much more.

Many people ONLY see the positives though and overlook the struggles of being a gym girl and let me tell you.. they are real!

BUT, totally worth it to reap the benefits of being a gym girly.

In this post we will go over the top 10 most relatable gym girl struggles.

This post is brought to you by a professional gym girlie.

No literally, this is my profession.

Let’s get into it!

First up we have…

Aggressive amounts of laundry

No one really talks about the fact that, especially if you are a normal person with a job, which you probably are, that you need multiple outfit changes a day if you’re adding the gym into the mix. This makes for a lot more laundry in the house!

Next…

Pulling leggings back up after peeing gym mid sesh

Sometimes, you just try to hold your pee because the amount of effort and jumping it takes to get your leggings back up after you pull them down is not worth it when you are really sweaty lol. IYKYK.

And then…

Always hungry and eating

Exercising regularly means an increased appetite due to various factors such as burning more calories daily and increased muscle mass or TDEE over time.

This quite literally means us gym folk need more food than same built non gym person next to us.

Hungrier = more food needed = higher grocery bills.

I literally just eat all day. Whenever someone calls or texts me me this is how the convo goes:

Them: “hey, what are you doing?”

Me: eating

Them: “AGAIN!?!”

Me: I never stopped

And there’s always…

Gym clothes/supplement addiction and costs

These days, the gym is a fashion show. Everybody showing up with their most fire gym fits for a few reasons –

  1. When you look good, you feel good.
  2. When you feel good, it brings more confidence. More confidence = better lift
  3. There could be some potential gym baes there so you want to look good if you’re single

The problem is, you generally just can’t have couple of good gym outfits. You need ALL the gym outfits. It becomes a vicious cycle of wanting new gym outfits, an addiction per se.

Now, there could be worse addictions for sure but gym clothes are expensive!! Especially if you’re hooked on a certain brand or brands with nicer quality clothes.

And don’t even get me started with the supplements. Once you start, that also becomes an aggressive cycling of constantly having to buy new supplements, try different brands, add new products into the mix.

The problem with this is that these are also expensive. A whole lot of money going out the door right there between groceries, gym clothes, and supplements.

Plus there is this..

Being stared at like an alien when you go in public as if females aren’t allowed to have muscle mass

Now, I think a lot of really massive men have to deal with this too but it is worse for women. Since from the beginning of time women had the body standard of being “skinny” and anything else was looked down upon, including being a larger woman or having muscle.

While that standard has changed over the years for sure, it’s still not that often when you go to the grocery store and see women with muscle so be prepared to get a ton of weird stares if you have any noticeable muscle mass.

Unfortunately, this happens a lot too…

Leaving crotch sweat everywhere

Even if you aren’t really sweaty in general, crotch sweat is a real thing regardless.

When you get off any seat, usually you leave behind a little sweat patch. It’s normal. Just wipe it off real quick no one has to see.

Or leave it behind for the next guy, I’m sure he won’t mind lol.

God forbid you try to wear normal people clothes because…

Finding non workout clothes that fit is a pain

Now luckily I don’t need to wear non gym clothes often but when I do…

Trying to find shirts specifically that fit over my shoulders is so hard.

Not to mention, trying to find pants where my thighs fit in but the waist isn’t aggressively large or baggy on me.

They just don’t manufacture clothes for muscular women because, there aren’t that many when you look at the overall population as a whole.

And then there’s men, who have better luck finding clothes that fit but for some reason they think we want their opinion…

Men give us unsolicited advice

For some reason, men think we want their advice when we don’t ask. Not sure why.

So you’re bound to get men trying to help you with your form, diet, or something else at one point or another even if they don’t know

RBF, being “unapproachable”

Muscles are intimidating.

Hair. Just all of the hair things. ALL of them.

Head hair, leg hair, crotch hair. So many things to be aware of.

Gotta make sure you have extra hair elastics at all times incase yours breaks.

Gotta make sure you shave your legs to a reasonable degree if you’re wearing shorts.

Gotta make sure you’re… well you know what happens if you wear leggings and its too long down there lol. If you don’t, don’t worry about it. Consider yourself lucky.

Tune in to this weeks episode where my friend Serena and I discuss all these in a back and forth conversation style (it is much more entertaining than this summarized post).

Until next time,

Coach Emily
