Do you truly need a personal trainer to get results?

No, you don’t.

To be honest, I still till this day have never personally had one myself which is a testament to my experience and the previous statement.

But here are some reasons why you may want to consider hiring one…

Reason 1: Accountability

Anyone can look up a workout and meal plan these days with the abundant amount of information on the internet.

Even if you have the perfect workout plan and meal plan though, YOU are the only one responsible for actually following them.

And if you don’t feel like it, you usually don’t.

That is where a trainer can come in handy.

An in person trainer would be more hands on of course, but an online trainer is also a great option to help you stay accountable with check ins and support.

For me personally, I like to check in with my clients 2x a week regardless, and I leave my messages open for questions pretty much all the time (unless I’m sleeping haha).

You don’t owe just yourself the responsibility of following through, but also your trainer who you are paying probably a good amount.

Chances are unless you’re well off, you don’t like to waste money so it will motivate you to get your booty to the gym!

Your trainer should be part of your support system, be your part time gym buddy (or virtual gym buddy), and one of your biggest supporters.

If they aren’t, they probably don’t care about you and your results.

Find a new trainer.

Reason 2: Reduce risk of injury

You can’t GUARANTEE that you will prevent injury simply by having a trainer alone, but it certainly helps to have someone who knows what they are doing assist you with your form and make sure you’re doing an exercise correctly.

Doing exercises with good form will help reduce your risk of injury loads!

Your trainer should also be assessing you in person or online via video(s) to correct your muscular imbalances.

Not only this, but your trainer should also be working around your body to make sure you’re doing exercises that work for your body. Some exercises may be too challenging for your experience level or not good for you based on prior injuries.

If your trainer isn’t doing these things, or pushing you too hard for your experience level, I’d try to find a new one.

Reason 3: Learning opportunities & get results faster

Your trainer should be TEACHING you things. If they are just telling you to do your workouts and eat the food on your meal plan but they aren’t giving you education to go with it… they are lame.

They probably just want you to keep resigning with them so they are withholding sharing their knowledge of training and nutrition with you.

You are paying this person to teach you how to workout and eat for your goal. Make sure you get your money’s worth!

Ask questions regularly.

I always give my clients my beginners eBook with the 1:1 coaching so they are fully educated on my processes and how to do everything on their own after our time together if they choose to do so.

If you’ve been struggling to see results on your own for more than a few months now, hiring a trainer is the fast track to results!

It doesn’t guarantee you results, but they probably have a much better idea of how to get you results than you do (no offense) and how to break through that plateau.

Reason 4: Customized plan to you and your goals

As I said above, anyone can find a workout plan and meal plan online but that doesn’t mean it is going to work well for you and your body. You could be doing a workout plan or have a meal plan that is completely opposite than what your goals are without realizing it.

And just because someone on the internet did it and it got them results, doesn’t mean that it’s going to do the same for you.

Every person has different genetics and needs.

Reason 5: Dig deeper, change up your stale routine & get excited again!

We all are excited about our fitness journey at the very beginning (maybe for a week lol). Then once the initial excitement wears off, it can be hard to stick to your gym routine.

Even if you do end up sticking with it, you usually don’t push yourself as hard as you should be in the gym to get the results you want. You just show up, do what you have to and then leave.

You probably haven’t switched up your routine in a while either, which is causing your routine to become extremely boring.

Hiring a trainer that will give you a workout plan that is outside of your norm, and potentially out of your comfort zone will help push you to reach new levels and limits!

Okay so now that you’re CONVINCED to hire a trainer….

How do you pick the right one for you?

Here is a list of questions I would run through:

  1. Do you need the in person aspect or would you be better with a hands off online trainer?
  2. Do you need a trainer who is going to be ruthless or would you prefer one that is more laid back but pushes you when needed?
  3. Do you need someone who is strictly business only or someone who gives you more of a friend vibe?

Now… not to toot my own horn but.. I’m pretty cool.

And did you know I am a trainer? Specifically an online trainer.

Yes, so if you think an online trainer with a more laid back friend vibe but one that can also push you when needed is your thing…

You can apply to work with me, here.

If you’re not sure that online training would be right for you, let me show you my package details:

If that isn’t your thing, totally fine! Some people need that in person hands on experience to stay motivated and/or to truly get those results.

There are plenty of trainers out there and surely one will fit your needs and vibe.

So if you’re thinking about getting a trainer but haven’t been sure, this is your sign to jump in and Just Do It like Nike.

Until next time,

Coach Emily
